Q: What is the Purpose of LTK Program?

LTK for Windows runs on all latest Windows version (XP to Win 10) 32 and 64 bit.

A: The purpose of the Language Tune-Up Kit is to provide basic reading skills to non–reading (functionally illiterate) children age 6 and older, teenagers and adults. Recent estimates indicate that 80 to 90 percent of functionally illiterate adults have learning disabilities. Many read at the preschool through grade 4 reading level. As teachers using LTK, the opportunity to prevent adult illiteracy is significant.

Many of these students do not respond to traditional teaching methods. Instead, they need an explicit, intensive, sequential, structured phonics method of instruction. They typically require three to ten times the number of usual repetitions to achieve mastery. Until now, these teaching methods have been available most often from only highly trained reading specialists.

Schools that face the challenge of delivering base–level reading instruction to functionally illiterate children, teenagers and adults can now look to the Language Tune-Up Kit. LTK is a programmed instructional platform that applies proven an explicit, intensive, sequential and structured phonics techniques redesigned for non-readers. LTK uses these techniques to help students encode the sound–symbol correlation of letters and words. The basis for instructional delivery within LTK is the renowned Orton-Gillingham approach, a highly successful worldwide process used since the 1930s with thousands of students with learning disabilities.

The Orton-Gillingham method teaches the basics of sound and word formation before whole meanings. It uses modalities, or pathways, through which people learn—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This method capitalizes on a student’s strengths while seeking to improve the weaknesses.
